COSMA, Deodato di
(active around 1300 in Rome)

Ciborium

1295
Marble
Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Rome

This work is a restrained example of the artistic design developed by Arnolfo di Cambio for this type of liturgical piece.

The structure has four pointed trilobed arches on columns, bounded at the corners by high newel posts and surmounted by gables decorated with Gothic leaves and a fretwork of rosettes. A small cupola base crowns it all, corresponding to the crossing of the roof pitches and the internal groined cross.
