St Carlo Borromeo Adoring Christ

The attribution of this painting to Giovanni Battista Crespi (Il Cerano) is dubious. Cerano was in large part responsible for the iconography of St Carlo Borromeo after his canonization in 1610. His compositions became the principal means of its propagation, being copied numerous times.
