DROUAIS, French family of painters

Hubert Drouais was a successful portrait painter and miniaturist whose fame was, however, eclipsed by that of his son François-Hubert Drouais, one of the most fashionable court portraitists in mid-18th-century France. François-Hubert's son Jean-Germain Drouais was the most promising Neo-classical history painter in the first generation of Jacques-Louis David's pupils, but he died young.
