The painter, who was active in Rimini in the beginning of the fourteenth century, received his name after this Crucifix which has the inscription "JOHES PICTOR FECIT HOC OPUS/FR. TOBALDI". This painted woo Crucifix originates from the church of San Francesco in Mercatello sul Metauro.
