There is only one surviving sculpture by El Greco's own hand in the Toledo Cathedral. Several others were executed by J. B. Monegro after designs by El Greco, among them this Risen Christ.
The figure of Christ is very similar in pose and design to the resurrected Christ in the painting representing The Resurrection in the Prado, Madrid.
