HERNÁNDEZ ESTRADA, Jerónimo
(b. 1540, Ávila, d. 1586, Sevilla)

The Resurrected Christ

1570s
Wood
Quinta Augustia, Seville

Jerónimo Hernández is one of the most important sculptors of the Seville school. He was a very skillful image-maker, and provided Spain with a complete religious iconography, principally of themes centering around the Virgin and the childhood of Christ. The Resurrected Christ at Quinta Augustia links Mannerist grace with Christian imagery.
