Retable of St Anne

c. 1447
Panel
Convent, Játiva

This painting was executed in Italy and commissioned by the Catalan Cardinal Alfonso Borgia, then in the service of Alfonso d'Aragon, later pope under the name Callistus III (1455-58). The central panel represents St Anne and the Madonna with St James and Archangel Gabriel. The side panels depicts St Augustine with St Monica and the donor.

The triptych shows Flemish influence through Petrus Christus.
