The marble bust of Maximilian Emmanuel of Bavaria, Governor of the Spanish Netherlands belongs to the late-Baroque. It is the masterpiece of the Antwerp sculptor Willem Kerrickx the Elder, who, working the marble with such verve and elegance, achieved a lively portrait of a courtly apparition from a society civilised to the point of caricature.
