This painting was commissioned by Geminiano Inghirami, Provost of the Pieve of Prato. The dead saint is laid out on a bier in the foreground and the narrative events are dispersed throughout the mountainous landscape background. The Trinity is ready above to receive the soul of the saint into heaven, and the kneeling figure of St Jerome in one of the background narratives doubles as a diminutive soul en route to the heavens.
