Scenes from the Old Testament: Isaac Blessing Jacob

1290s
Fresco, 300 x 300 cm
Upper Church, San Francesco, Assisi

The artist contains the action within a box-like room, the front wall of which is missing. This lends the composition a previously unknown compactness. Jacob, the second-born son of the patriarch Isaac, wearing fur on his hands and around his neck, is ready to deceive his blind father. He approaches the latter timidly and with a hesitant gesture. A woman helps the patriarch into the position from which he gives his blessing.

This fresco is located in the clerestory of the north wall in the second bay of the nave.
