Portrait of Abbot Christiaan de Hondt

c. 1500
Panel, 30 x 14 cm
Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Antwerp

In addition to the male portraits painted by Van der Weyden and Memling there are other 15th-century Flemish portraits which do not bear such illustrious names, but which are worthy of our attention all the same. These include the richly embellished Portrait of Abbot Christiaan De Hondt by an anonymous master called the Master of 1499.
