The altarpiece has a composition characteristic of 13th-14th century Sienese painting. The figures and the scenes show the strong influence of Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti.
The master of the altarpiece is referred to as the Master of the Privileges after he had illustrated the famous Majorcan Book of Privilegies of about 1334.
