Early drawings
by MICHELANGELO

In his early drawings Michelangelo copied with minor alterations figures from the works of the older Florentine masters, Giotto and Masaccio. These are large pen-and-ink drawings that occupy an entire sheet. In them Michelangelo not only uses a fine technique of densely spaced hatching but also limits himself to a few cursorily drawn lines when he only wants to suggest the figures in a rough manner.
