This is the relief below the niche containing the group "Quattro Santi Coronati" commissioned by the Arte dei Maestri di Pietra and Legname (Guild of the Stone and Woodcutters).

Three men labour at guild tasks (building a wall, carving a spiral column, measuring a capital), while a fourth, perhaps a self-portrait, works on either a nude putto all'antiqua (most likely) or a Christ Child.
