Nude Study

c. 1515
Red chalk over metal stylus, 410 x 281 mm
Graphische Sammlung Albertina, Vienna

This is a nude study of live models, but only the figure in the foreground was used, for a field-captain in The Battle of Ostia (Stanza dell'Incendio di Borgo). Raphael gave the page of drawings to Albrecht Dürer, and the title is probably in Dürer's handwriting, with Raphael's name and the date, 1515. Raphael in turn received a self portrait by Dürer, which has since been lost.
