1489-93
Alabaster
Monastery of Miraflores, Burgos

Don Juan II and Doña Isabel of Portugal were the parents of Isabel the Catholic, their tomb is the masterpiece of Diego de Siloé. The reclining statues are separated by fine cresting. The sepulcher group, whose contours form an eightpointed star, constitutes an impressive work of art, in which remarkable are the expressive naturalness of the king's faces, which reflect their sleeping state, the lovely modeling of the jewels and vestments, the splendid execution of the sculptures which represent numerous allegorical figures.
