The Vision of Ezekiel

1577-78
Oil on canvas, 660 x 265 cm
Scuola Grande di San Rocco, Venice

On this large oval, Ezekiel, under the commanding gesture of the Father, watches while the human bones become recovered with flesh. The three figures of the Eternal Father, of Ezekiel and of the naked man, built up in schemes of strong figurative contrasts, seem to force the actual limits of the painting.
