The themes painted in the ground floor apartments, intended for various uses by guests, are all taken from classical mythology and are thoroughly appropriate to a country seat. The relatively small paintings are embedded in a decorative system, of grotesques, establishing the overall appearance of this series of rooms. Zuccaro has borrowed here from representations of grotesques by the circle of Raphael. This is clearest in the Stanza dell'Autunno, which goes back to the ceiling frescoes by Giovanni da Udine in the Villa Madama, Rome.
