Ambulatory capital

Musée de Farinier, Cluny

The capitals of the former abbey church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul in Cluny (Saône-et-Loire) distinguish themselves to their self-contained reference to ancient Corinthian capitals. This appears particularly clearly in the two capitals bearing the eight personifications of the notes of Gregorian chant. The picture shows a detail of one of these capitals representing the first four notes of Gregorian chant.
