San Domingo, Silos

The Annunciation relief occupying one side of a pillar in the cloister of San Domingo in Silos depicts a Virgin in Majesty crowned by two soaring angels; she receives, by way of annunciation, the homage of an angel kneeling at her feet. The relief presents an elegance in the supple handling of the drapery and an aesthetic which can already be considered as Gothic, in spite of the lingering influence of the Romanesque tradition.
