The Gallus gate, a stepped portal with jamb figures, appears on the north transept of the Minster of Our lady in Basel. It looks as if it is set within a Roman triumphal arch. The structure, which was built towards the end of the twelfth century, has been restored and altered on many occasions during the course of the years. Part of the original Romanesque structure are the upper part of the tympanum and the figures in the jambs.
