San Frediano, Lucca

One of Lucca's most exceptional Romanesque sculptures is the font in San Frediano. The richly sculptured basin rests on a shaped round base, and in its centre is a column in the form of a flame with little devils. It supports a round vase with a tempietto. Several sculptors worked on this piece including one Master Roberto, who left his signature on the edge of the basin.
