The reign of St Louis marks the beginning of serious consistent secular court patronage in the history of European art. St Louis set a new fashion in sumptuous palace chapels. However, in sculpture this is a period of stylistic stagnation. The major sculpture surviving from the Ste Chapelle exemplifies this, the Apostles can b e related stylistically to the Amiens sculptures.
