St Boniface born in England (672-754), was a leading figure in the Anglo-Saxon mission to the Germanic parts of the Frankish Empire during the 8th century. He became Archbishop of Mainz, in Germany, and was a missionary in the Netherlands. This 11th-century manuscript records his success in baptizing converts and his eventual martyrdom in Friesland, aged nearly eighty.
