The Frenchman Hugo of Fouilloy was active in the middle of the twelfth century. in his bestiary, he created a series of images depicting monstrous creatures half man, half beast: there are headless creatures with eyes set in their shoulders and faces growing out of their chests, followed by creatures with gigantic tusks protruding from their bodies.
