Ghislieri Hours

c. 1500
Manuscript (Yates Thompson Ms. 29), 205 x 150 mm
British Library, London

This manuscript belonged to a member of the Bolognese Ghislieri family, probably Bonaparte Ghislieri (d. 1541), a senator of Bologna.

This lavishly gilded Renaissance miniature on folio 74v shows the Annunciation. The Virgin is at her prie-dieu, with the archangel Gabriel kneeling in front of her on the left. Above left, the arms of the Ghislieri family are set into the city gate.
