Monument for the Heart of Anne de Bretagne

1514
Gold, enamel, height 15 cm
Musée départemental Dobrée, Nantes

Before her death at Blois (January 9, 1514), Queen Anne de Bretagne requested that her heart be placed in the sepulcher of her parents in the Carmelite church in Nantes, where she had built a tomb for them. Her heart was placed in a gold reliquary enamelled in the queen's colours and surmounted by a crown of gold filigree decorated with fleur-de-lys and trefoils.
