Pendant in the form of a gondola

c. 1570
Enamelled gold, pearls, rubies, diamonds, 7,5 x 7,3 cm
Museo degli Argenti, Palazzo Pitti, Florence

This pendant is part of a group of gems once belonging to the Electress Palatine, Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici. Fashioned in the form of a gondola on which a couple of lovers are seated, accompanied by the gondoliers and two musicians, it is particularly fascinating for the precious stones, rubies and diamonds, used to decorate it.
