View of Delphi

1672
Oil on canvas, 102 x 127 cm
Art Institute, Chicago

Claude rarely depicted ruins. In the View of Delphi he employed the motif of a procession, dear to Poussin. But the figures (for which he was perhaps assisted) became increasingly tiny and insignificant.
