CRIVELLI, Italian family of painters

The most eminent member of the family was Carlo Crivelli. His brother Vittore Crivelli also attained distinction as a painter. Their father Jacopo (active Venice, 1444–49) and Vittore's son Giacomo (active Fermo, 1496–1502) were also painters; no works by them are known to survive. Documentation concerning a third brother, Ridolfo (active c. 1487), who may have been a painter, was apparently known to 19th-century authorities; nothing substantiating this figure has come to light.
