Seated Nymph

-
Bronze with gilt drapery, height 20,5 cm
Wallace Collection, London

This exquisite Seated Nymph (Venus?) is the only known work by the Paduan sculptor Giovanni Fonduli da Crema. The pose is taken from a classical original, sometimes associated with a dancing faun who entices the nymph as she adjusts her sandal.

There is a signature OPUS IO CRE on the back of the throne.
