MOREAU, French family of sculptors

The Moreau family sculptor dynasty begins with Jean Baptiste Moreau, who was born in Dijon, France at the end of the 18th century. Jean Baptiste had three sons who followed in his footsteps, they were Mathurin (1822-1912), Hippolyte François (1832-1927) and Auguste (1834-1917). The legacy continued with Auguste's sons, Louis Auguste and Hippolyte. Members of the Moreau family often studied at the famous École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Mathurin received many awards and specialized more in large statues, his two brothers were more into production.
