Pietro Tacca was trained in Florence by Giambologna, whose influential workshop he eventually inherited. His principal assistant was his son Ferdinando Tacca, who succeeded him as court sculptor to the Medici Grand Dukes of Tuscany; between them they served the grand-ducal family for over 80 years.
