Antoninus Florentinus: Chronicon

1450-1500
Incunable (Inc. 234/1)
Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest

This incunable contains Antoninus's compendium of history, presented through a series of examples of righteous living. It extends from the ancient to the modern world, with the most modern examples drawn from Antoninus's contemporaries, Poggio Bracciolini and Leonardo Bruni. Saint Antoninus (Anthony of Florence, 1389-1459) was an archbishop of Florence.

On the title page of each volume of this 3-volume book a depiction of St George can be seen. The picture shown here is a detail of the title page of the first volume. St George is depicted within an initial "H" on gold background.
