The mosaic decoration of the domes and the vaults of the Baptistery in the Basilica of San Marco includes a series of Stories of St John the Baptist. The craftsmen who executed the mosaics in the fourteenth century were trained in the Byzantine tradition but also influenced by contemporary Venetian painting.
