Rocky Pastoral Landscape

Oil on copper, 20 x 31 cm
Private collection

The present painting depicts a rocky pastoral landscape with the Flight into Egypt, shepherds tending their flocks beyond. It is a typical work by Ryckaert, who probably never travelled to Italy, and who thus derived his Italianate sources from the paintings and prints of other artists, in this case from Paul Bril's works.
