Eucharist

15th century
Manuscript
Musée Condé, Chantilly

This miniature depicts a priest administering the Eucharist to the laity. The Eucharist, or Holy Communion was the central mystery of the Christian liturgy, when at the priest's words of consecration, the bread and wine actually become the body and blood of Christ, to be taken into the mouths of the faithful.
