The Barbarigo are chiefly famous among Venetian patrician families for providing two successive doges: Marco (Doge 1485-86) and Agostino (Doge 1486-1501). The survival of the account books of a member of a secondary branch of the family, Andrea (1399-1449), gives an understanding of the government-sponsored trading and business life of the Venetian patriciate as a whole.
