Manfredi family

Lords of Faenza 1313-1501, papal vicars (from 1412) and counts of Val di Lamone. Their fortunes resemble those of other military signori of the Romagna. Astorgio II (1448-68) and Carlo II (1468-77) displayed interest in learning, the visual arts and urban improvements; Galeotto (1477-88) was assassinated, allegedly because his wife resented his lover; the young and popular Astorre (1488-1501), dependent on Venetian protection, was a victim of Cesare Borgia, who captured Faenza after a long blockade (April 1501): he was found murdered in Rome (June 1502).
