It was above all in the 16th century that this Brescian family, or rather clan of interrelated families, provided Venetian armies, in peacetime as well as in war, with a steady supply of condottieri and infantry captains. Girolamo (d. 1570) and Marcantonio (d. 1595) were also prominent among Venetian military engineers.
