Petrucci family

In 1487 Pandolfo Petrucci, then 36, seized the government of Siena at the head of the Noveschi faction. He assassinated his wife's father and encouraged the Magione conspiracy against Cesare Borgia: he was admired by Machiavelli. He abdicated in favour of his son Borghese, and died in 1512. Borghese and his brother Fabio were expelled in 1516 and replaced, through the influence of Leo X, by Rafaello Petrucci (d. 1522). Fabio's brief return to power, 1522-24, ended the family's prominence.
