Cathedral, Naples

The main portal of the Naples Cathedral, commissioned by Cardinal Enrico Minutolo, is a spectacular, composite work designed by Antonio Baboccio, a native of Piperno, south of Rome, who had probably worked previously in Milan. The program focuses upon two images of the Virgin, an enthroned Madonna and Child in the tympanum and a representation of her coronation in the oculus above.
