The splendid festivities held on the occasion of the wedding of Prince Cosimo de' Medici with Margherita Luisa d'Orléans on June 20, 1661, at the Palazzo Pitti are preserved in a series of etchings by Stefano della Bella. This sheet shows the dazzling aggrandizing display of the ceremonies at the amphitheatre, built in the 1630s behind the residence in the Boboli Gardens.
