Originally the panel, signed as 'Bartolomeus Bermejo Cordubensis' belonged to the funeral monument of Canon Desplá, who commissioned it. The donor's portrait-like realistic representation is on the right. The background is emphasized more strongly than in contemporary Spanish painting.
