BOCCACCINO, Boccaccio
(b. ca. 1460, Ferrara, d. 1525, Cremona)

Gypsy Girl

1516-18
Oil on panel, 24 x 19 cm
Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence

This exotically veiled woman with clear, sea green eyes wears modest gold jewelry. SStrung on heavy thread, it adds to her picturesque portrayal by the artist.

The artist's training under Domenico Panetti (1470-1513) had little impact on his alliance to the School of Cremona, on which he had a crucial influence. His influences from Perugino are probably due to a period in Rome.
