Foscari Arch

1450-70
Marble
Palazzo Ducale, Venice

The Foscari Arch stands at the end of the Foscari Portico, which leads from the Porta della Carta into the courtyard. The arch was built by Bartolomeo Bon in collaboration with Antonio Bregno and Antonio Rizzo, the most important Venetian sculptors of the fifteenth century. A projecting balustrade divides it horizontally into two distinct orders, richly adorned with sculpture.
