Doge Francesco Foscari Kneeling before the Lion of St Mark

Above the cornice over the door of the Porta della Carta is Francesco Foscari - under whose dogeship the Porta was constructed - kneeling before the lion of St Mark. Presently it is a copy replacing the original which was destroyed in 1797.
