The Last Communion of St Jerome (detail)c. 1495
Tempera on panel
Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
The artist was primarily interested in the figure of St Jerome. The saint has a considerably larger head than the other figures. Even the features of the old man, already bearing the signs of the impending death, are far more strikingly modelled.
