(active 1425-1457 in Venice)
Istrian stone, height, 143 cm
Victoria and Albert Museum, London
This Virgin of the Annunciation and the Angel on the other side of the doorway were originally intended to be placed high up, probably above a doorway. The Virgin's neck has been elongated so that her face would be read better from below.
Besides Antonio Bregno, various artists have been proposed for the figures, including Giorgio da Sebenico (also known as Giorgio Orsini, c. 1400-1473), Bartolomeo Bon (active 1421-1464) and an anonymous member of Bon's workshop.
