In the 1650s Castello developed a scheme of a simulated opening on the ceiling with symmetrical architectural framing elements incorporating additional figures and motifs. On the ceiling in the Palazzo Reale (formerly Palazzo Balbi Durazzo), showing the Triumph of the Balbi, he worked together with his pupil, Giovanni Maria Mariani.
